Wheeling, WV-- The Wheeling Nailers, the proud
AA affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh
Penguins, are always a hit on the ice but they also
strive to continually do their part in the community
and to be a part of the area that gives their support
to them.
Recently, Wheeling Nailers players made more appearances
at area elementary schools reading to kids, helping
with homework, and just sharing with the area youths
some of their thoughts on the importance
of being a professional athlete and representing
the Nailers organization.
Colin Power and Chris Davis spoke to the kids at
Bethlehem Elementary. Andrew Lord and Ryan Schnell
worked with the youngsters at the Follensbee After-school
program. It's not just great for the kids. It
also gives our players a sense of pride and accomplishment
when they give back to the area. Plus, everyone
has a lot of fun!
"We definitely take a lot of pride in our
role in the community," said Nailers Vice President
Craig Bommer. "You've got to be an active participant
in the area. If you're not then you can't really
ask them to support you. We're always getting our
players and our staff out into the schools and anything
else going on in the community. We want to be out
there and show our support for the community as
much as they support us."
The Wheeling Nailers make over 100 appearances
in the community each and every year! From different
schools to various charity functions the Nailers
are there playing an active role.
