Wheeling, WV – The Wheeling Nailers, the proud
AA affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh
Penguins, have announced that defenseman Mitch Ganzak
has been called up to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
Penguins of the AHL.
Ganzak, 25, has posted 10 points (1-9-10) in 13
games with the Nailers, placing him third on the
team at the time of his recall. He scored the overtime
game-winner against the Johnstown Chiefs in a 5-4
thriller on Saturday, November 8th at WesBanco Arena.
He appeared in 64 games with the Nailers last season,
reaching the 40-point plateau including 33 assists
and achieving a plus-minus rating of plus-13, tied
for second on the team. He also appeared in three
AHL contests with Norfolk and Albany on loan.
Ganzak was one of four Nailers named to the ECHL
All-Rookie team and his performance earned him a
contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The 5-11, 200-pound blueliner from Redford, Michigan,
appeared in 153 games in four years at Miami University
of Ohio (NCAA), recording 101 points (9+92) and
203 penalty minutes with the Redhawks.
Mitch Ganzak is the fifth Wheeling Nailer called
up to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season joining
Lane Caffaro, Joey Haddad, Alex Grant and T.J. Fox.
The Wheeling Nailers next action is this weekend
with a pair of games Friday and Saturday nights
at the Elmira Jackals. The Nailers next home game
is Wednesday, November 25th against the Florida
