WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a transaction, taking effect immediately. Wheeling received defenseman Harrison Ruopp from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Ruopp, 20, will make his professional debut with the Nailers, after spending the last four seasons with the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders. While with the Raiders, Harrison appeared in 214 games, accumulating three goals, 31 assists, 34 points, and 395 penalty minutes. Following the 2010-11 campaign, the Zehner, SK native entered the NHL Entry Draft, where he was selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the third round (84th overall). One summer later, Ruopp made headlines at the draft again, as the Coyotes traded him to the Pittsburgh Penguins, as part of the deal that sent defenseman Zbynek Michalek to Phoenix.
Harrison Ruopp will be in the lineup for the Nailers on Thursday night, wearing #3, as they begin a three-game series against the Elmira Jackals. WesBanco Arena will be the scene for the games on Thursday and Saturday, with both tilts beginning at 7:00.
