Kalamazoo, Mich. – The Wheeling Nailers
dropped a 7-3 decision at the Kalamazoo Wings
Saturday night allowing a season high for goals
against in the contest. T.J. Fox (5th), Blair
Yaworski (4th) and Andrew Lord (4th) scored
the goals on the night for Wheeling. Jordan
Parise took the loss on in relief of starter
Brad Thiessen who gave up 3 goals in the first
period.
The Nailers fall to a record of 11-13-2 and
are 0-2 against the North Division leading K-Wings.
Several fights broke out especially in the
3rd period as the Nailers were showing their
pride and setting the tone for an upcoming meeting
back in Kalamazoo in a couple weeks. Andrew
Lord, Colin Power, Mitch Ganzak, Aaron Clarke
and Ryan Schnell all got involved in altercations
on the evening.
Cliff Loya played his 200th all-time game as
a Wheeling Nailers and is only the 4th player
to reach the milestone. Loya has a chance to
catch Stephan Brannare’s all-time Nailers
record of 231 games in a Wheeling jersey.
Andrew Fornier led the attack for the Wings
with a hat-trick in the first period.
Wheeling outshot Kalamazoo 39-34. The Wings
were 2-for-7 on the power play while Wheeling
was 1-for-7.
Sunday afternoon at 3:05 The Nailers are back
in action at home against Gwinnett.
Sunday’s home game is the Nailers last
at WesBanco Arena in two weeks. After a 3-game
series in Florida the Nailers break for the
holiday and won’t play in Wheeling again
until Sunday, December 27th against Elmira and
Thursday, December 31st against Toledo in the
annual New Year’s Eve game.
Sunday it's Ko-Sports Ice of Dreams Night and
Sunday Family FunDay featuring a post-game skate
with Santa. Be sure to bring your skates and
gloves…and don’t forget the camera!
